Since the year one artists are attracted by the roaring sea, endless beaches, fisherman boats and rustic ports of the Isle of Usedom – even today. Under the motto “7 paint by the sea” seven international painters assemble to the traditional Imperial Spa plein-air from May 13, 2012 to May 21, 2012 for the 8th time. On seven days the artists will portray the island in solitariness. The spontaneously inspired works are painted among the historical settings of the “3 Imperial Spas” and in the spectacular nature of the island. Every evening the works will be presented to an interested audience.
The exhibition opening will take place at the museum villa “Irmgard” in Heringsdorf.
On the 19th of May, each of the participants of the “Grand Schlemm” on the Isle of Usedom certainly has a table with sea view. At the culinary beach walking tour from Ahlbeck via Heringsdorf to Bansin (nearly five kilometres) the chefs of the island create aromatic delicacies at different places for a gourmet picnic. Various “resting places deluxe” are positioned all the way on the beach. Treat yourself step by step at this walking tour! The warm rays of the sun, the refreshing sea air and the culinary specialties of the chefs indulge the senses. Enjoy the annual gourmet tour of the Isle of Usedom – the “Grand Schlemm” right beside the Baltic sea with its white sandy beach.
Already for the 13th time the Isle of Usedom will be meeting point for artists from all over the world. On those days the promenade of Heringsdorf turns into the longest and most colourful stage for an open air festival at the Baltic coast. Daring aerialists, witty mime, buffoonery and sensational shows with fire. Vacationists and locals will be astonished about the big world of the “small art” at the international cabaret festival from the 25th until the 28th of May 2012. The visitors can look forward to a real firework of senses.
From the 1st of June to the 2nd of September 2012 the theatre tent “Chapeau Rouge” shows its program in an extraordinary atmosphere at the promenade of Heringsdorf. Before midday the children´s program is taking place and in the evening you sit over a drink and enjoy tragedies, comedies and farces. The sounds of the waves and the seagulls in the background are part of the program. A highlight awaits you in August in the theatre tent at the “fourth night of the stars” with fanciful and cosmic surprises for the whole family.
From the 8th to the 10th of June 2012 old and young are invited to enjoy diversified jazz far into the night. At the 15th jazz festival at the railway station of Heringsdorf the sound of jazz will be carried out from the railway station as well as the trains. Providing a choice of various genres the festival is offering something for everyone´s taste of music.
12 magnificent gates and a beautiful port adorn the rich wondrous city by the sea, which suppose to have been greater and older than any other town in Europe, even larger than Constantinople, older than Rome. The speech is from Vineta – the town which, according to historic deliveries, sunk before Koserow once on an Easter weekend into the sea and on the legendary Vineta festival on the Baltic stage Zinnowitz Vineta it awakes again.
For every tennis fan it is certainly a highlight to play tennis and to enjoy the summer time on the sunny Isle of Usedom. Usedom Senior Open starts from the 8th to 15th of July. Scene of the tennis highlights are the usual facilities of Zinnowitz and Karlshagen. The game is played in the age groups 40 +, 50 +, 60 + and 65 +, A-Round (ranking) and B-round (round hobby).
On the 8th and 9th of July 2012 you can experience a cocktail competition as a different kind of contest. In the preliminary round on Sunday evening at 6 o´clock the bartenders start with the topic Classic and Flair. Appearance, flavor and technique – shoud be solid technical skills of the bartenders – they decide the winn or the los of the category “Classic”. For the category “Flair” the talented bartenders show ther technical skills with there shakers and the bottles.
“Who would have thought that the beach volleyball tournament advanced in the millennium year 2000, held in Karlshagen, become the largest beach volleyball tournament in the world”. This year the legendary event takes place from the 27th to the 29th of July on the beach promenade of Karlshagen.
From the 27th to the 29th of July 2012 the summer party of Ahlbeck will take place at the concert place and on the beach promenade Ahlbeck. Visitors can expect an interesting program: different bands, a fire show, a children circus or a historical bathing suit fashion show. Market stalls invite to stroll. To finish the exciting days allow yourself a walk on the sea bridge.
Pompous clothes, traditional music, a large parade and the biggest artcrafts market of Mecklenburg-West Pomerania with more than 60 booths: Once a year the nostalgic atmosphere of the 20s lies above the promenade and the Heringsdorf bandshell. It´s the biggest street event in the region.
From the 1st until 8th of September you will find the river Peene literally on fire. At the harbour of the hanseatic town Anklam the state theatre association is presenting a colourful open air play of „The Peene burns“. The piece will be acted out, along the two benches of the Anklam harbour and on the bridge leading above the river, with breathtaking fencing and sword sequences. Fighting over the supremecy of the town of Anklam you experience a play mixed with humor and winking, thunder and canon smoke.
On the 1st of September, the island of Usedom is presenting the 33. edition of the international Usedom marathon. This event will lure again numerous eager runners from Germany and abroad who will defeat the 42 kilometres long demanding distance from Swinoujscie to Wolgast, in a fair competition. For less coached runners the starting signal falls at the same time with the marathon start on the promenade of the Polish seaside resort Swinoujscie in the “Wolgaster Peenestadion” also for the 22. half marathon which leads through the Usedom villages Neeberg and Sauzin and ends again in Wolgast.
Annually in September and October, for four weeks, the unmistakeable sounds of the Usedom music festival float above the island. Representing each year a different country, in 2012 the music festival devotes itself to the musical treasures of Russia. Whether symphonies, chamber music or vowel pieces – the Usedom music festival arises with enthusiasm with a range of musical types – unique for the island Usedom.
In Karlshagen kites of any kind will fly – whether curious, small, large, homemade or professional ones, who let the landscape look colorful. An entertainment for the whole family.
From November to March the artificial ice rink invites you to ice skating. Directly at the promenade of Heringsdorf the whole family can swing the skids or watch the local hockey team at tournaments. There is an ice skate rental company directly on site.
Every year in spring, summer and atumn the sunny Isle of Usedom invites you to the big “get together” of the fashion industry which includes three glamorous fashion highlights in front of a sensational setting. Vacationers and locals can watch international designer at the Baltic Fashion Award, the Bridge of Fashion and the Usedom Baltic Fashion Guests.
During the Usedom game weeks in October the executive chefs of Usedom swing their cooking spoons wildly and conjure all kinds of culinary highlights. Depending on the creativity of the chefs there will be something on the menu for everyone – no matter whether solid, middle-class or noble menus – surveing an excellent game, prefferable from local suppliers. You also find the theme reflected in the decoration of the participating restaurants as well as on the plate arrangements.
