The trade fair city of Frankfurt bristles with inspirational visions
Avant-garde architecture and exhibitions such as the Motor Show and the Book Fair accord Frankfurt am Main the attribute of a city of the future.
The modern skyscrapers of the banks are only the external signboard of a city which very nearly became the capital of the Federal Republic of Germany, but which is instead today the venue for important international trade fairs. From the main train station and the centrally located Hotel Steigenberger Metropolitan, buses and subways leave for the trade fair site, which is identified by the slim, futuristic trade fair tower (Messeturm). The best-known of the fairs is the Frankfurt Book Fair, which focuses on authors of a different country every year. Equally noteworthy are the futuristic visions of a technical nature at the Frankfurt Motor Show (IAA).
Oases of peace and quiet in Frankfurt
Whereas in the center, around the Römer, life clamours with such things as alternating fairs and carnivals, the tranquil Schaumainkai offers walks on the picturesque bank of the Main with magnificent views of the skyline. The Palm Garden in the expansive Grüneburg Park has an exotic air.
