Hessian savoir-vivre in Frankfurt-Langen
Goethe once lodged in Frankfurt-Langen. With its half-timbered houses, the Ironman and the Ebbelwoi cider festival, this town in Hesse is a popular destination for excursions.
Around ten kilometres from Frankfurter Airport, the medium-sized Hessian town of Frankfurt-Langen offers a stay full of variety. Half-timbered buildings in the old town, historic structures such as the towers of the old town wall and the neo-gothic Evangelical church shape the townscape. The structural translation of the golden ratio can be studied at the Vierröhrenbrunnen fountain, from which cider bubbles up at the annual Ebbelwoifest every June. In the neo-classical building of the Old Town Hall, there is now a town museum with regular special exhibitions. The prestigious Wolfsgarten Castle is in the possession of the Landgrave of Hessen, who opens his park twice a year, when the park opens and for the Schloss Wolfsgarten garden festival. There are also numerous places to go swimming in Frankfurt-Langen, including the lake Langener Waldsee with its sandy beach, which is the venue for the annual Ironman Germany.
